IBR: Nampa is the No. 2 Boomtown in the Country
The city of Boise has received growing national attention over the last decade, reaching a fever pitch over the last couple years. The appeal of the small Pacific Northwest city is becoming common knowledge. The combination outdoor recreation, big city amenities, arts and culture in Boise has gained a well-deserved national reputation.
However, the city of Nampa remains fairly unknown outside the Gem State. According to Data USA, the population of Nampa, Idaho is currently 93,952 people, and projected to keep growing with no end in sight. Nampa was recently highlighted in the Idaho Business Review Idaho:
Three Idaho communities, all in the Treasure Valley, made the top-50 boomtown list for 2021.
The study had some surprises: it ranked Nampa as the number-two boomtown in the nation and Meridian made the number-three spot. Boise ranked 28.
So what is causing this “boom” in this neighboring Boise city?
The study used seven metrics to create its business growth “boomtown” index: population change, unemployment rate, change in unemployment rate, GDP growth rate, business growth, housing growth and change in household income. The number-one boomtown was Murfreesboro, Tenn., just outside of Nashville.
