Move over, Buford, Wyoming! Could Idaho be pruned for an influx of remote workers? The rapidly growing Gem State is known for desirable lifestyle, affordable housing market, among many other things.

The Wall Street Journal reported that, “Reddit Inc. and Zillow Group Inc. are making a potentially expensive gamble to retain talent and gain a hiring edge. The move can entail maintaining relatively high salaries of employees who are relocating, and adopting a revised scale for new hires. Though it is early, the move challenges a long-held, but not universal, notion that where people live should determine what they make.”
If this trend takes hold, it will be a boon for workers. The prospect of not needing to live within commuting distance of a job or applying for a role anywhere in the U.S. could be a career game-changer. A person who’s stuck in a region that doesn’t offer appropriate jobs would have to settle for what’s available. When companies are open to recruiting talent away from the major business hubs, it opens up new vistas for a large number of Americans.
